Cooling circuit connection

The SMAC 200 and SMAC 270 series motors are designed with the liquid cooled option and equipped with following connectors:

Therefore, make sure that the cooling circuit is not blocked before its connection and / or connection.

Motor performance

The motor curves (MDS) are simulated under the following conditions:

Liquid type: Water 50% / Glycol 50%
Liquid temperature: 20°C
Flow SMAC 200: 10 l/min
Flow SMAC 270: 20 l/min

Note: a different liquid will generate a lower cooling capacity. The motor performance will change depending on the specific liquid used.

Liquid Temperature, Pressure and Flow

The motor performances are related to the flow and temperature of the liquid. It is necessary to use a pump with a correct size for the right flow value.

The liquid system (chiller) needs to be chosen in order to reach a right cooling of the liquid at the right pressure and flow

Untitled

See the following steps for the right chiller selection:

  1. Define the Mechanical Power (Pm) related to the specific application.
  2. Use the Motor Curve (MDS) to define the motor performance η (efficiency map).
  3. Define the Power Adsorbed Pa = Pm / η (W).
  4. Define the Dissipated Power Pd = Pa – Pm (W).

The Dissipated Power Pd is the power that the chiller needs to be able to extract.

The liquid inner temperature (Tliq.) needs to be chosen in order to avoid the condensation on the external surface of the motor casing:

T liq. > T amb. – 5°C

See the following values for different motors dimension:
